Django Reinhardt Festival 2026: Gypsy Jazz with an International Format in Straubing

When the first chords sound in the Theater Am Hagen, Straubing transforms on October 23 and 24, 2026, into a meeting point for the international Gypsy jazz scene. The Django Reinhardt Festival combines the musical tradition of Django Reinhardt with virtuosic improvisation, modern influences, and a top-notch line-up.

Two Evenings Full of Jazz-Manouche Energy

The festival was initiated by David and Danino Weiss together with Fred Dick from the music club The Raven. The hosts keep the tradition of the Hot Club de France alive while also opening it up to new colors of sound. Accordion, piano, violin, guitar, and double bass come together with rhythmic precision, spontaneous dialogues, and the characteristic lightness of Gypsy swing.

The two-day musical experience takes place entirely at the Theater Am Hagen. The intimate hall atmosphere creates short distances between stage and audience, while the open-air festival vibe of a large summer event gives way to a concentrated concert atmosphere with immediate proximity to the artists.

The Line-up on Friday

The festival opening on Friday, October 23, belongs to Tchavolo Schmitt, a prominent representative of the French Sinti swing scene. Also on the program are Nando Reinhardt and Tibor Grünholz with their dialogue between Gypsy Jazz tradition and modernity. The Franz Ensemble expands the sound palette with Gypsy Jazz, Bossa Nova, and American jazz.

International Top Musicians on Saturday

On Saturday, October 24, the Dorado Schmitt Family Project follows with a legend of Manouche Jazz. Giovanni Weiss, a two-time ECHO Jazz award winner, presents his Django Cinema Show. The David & Danino Weiss Quartet explores new paths in Gypsy Swing, while Andy Weiss and Les Flaneurs Du Jazz bring the legendary sound of the Hot Club de France to the stage.

Festival Culture with an Attitude

The Django Reinhardt Festival stands for musical excellence, cultural diversity, and vibrant improvisation. The event is supported by the Straubing Partnerships for Democracy WIR SIND STRAUBING as part of the federal program Democracy Live!. Together with the participating artists, the festival sets a sign against anti-Romani sentiments and for respect, diversity, and democratic togetherness.

Conclusion: Experience Jazz-Manouche Up Close

Visitors can expect an intense multi-day experience with international artist line-ups, virtuosic guitar artistry, and a special community atmosphere in the Theater Am Hagen. Those who want to not only hear Gypsy Jazz but also feel its energy, history, and improvisational art live will experience two extraordinary concert evenings in Straubing.
